Experience

My name is Kim and I am Illinois certified K-9 teacher. I have a master’s degree in teaching, and I am a Level One certified Wilson Reading System teacher. I am available for tutoring at the Naperville Public Library for you, or your children, and work with homeschooled students. My passion is teaching and learning -- always with a twist of fun. I believe in learning by doing and create lesson plans that reflect that belief. The student guides the lessons in the sense that it caters to their specific needs. I understand that there is always time for ‘teachable moments,’ however, and am not opposed to deviation from the lesson plans to expand upon them. Trained with a constructivist edge, I try to use inventive ways of teaching. Dedicated to enhancing each student’s curiosity and imagination by addressing their learning style, I am a goal-driven teacher who designs lessons that are fun and engaging! I have years of tutoring experience and many more in the classroom, where I have had the chance to develop successful methods of teaching. I am a Level One Wilson Certified teacher who has been tutoring using the Wilson Program since 2010. The Wilson Reading System is a comprehensive program developed for moderate to severe reading disabilities. Based on Orton-Gillingham principals, this multisensory program is for reading, spelling, fluency, and comprehension. My training has included all of the Wilson Workshops – Fundations (grades K -2), Applied Methods, Just Words, (adolescent and adult readers) and Fluency. My students, who range from elementary age to adults, are highly successful with this systematic approach. Most lessons include direction in executive functioning, morphology, vocabulary, metacognition, comprehension, and fluency. My tutoring in traditional reading and writing has proven success as well. I have experience with students diagnosed with Dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Dysgraphia, Autism, language, and auditory processing disorders. I am happy to forward you my resume and letters of recommendation at your request. Thank you for your consideration!
